1969 Lui 50
Ho avuto diversi Lui nella mia vita, sia 50cc che 75cc, addirittura un 75 inglese con un passato sportivo. Tuttavia non mi ero mai lasciato coinvolgere, sta di fatto che ho sempre finito con il venderli. Alla fine ho capito il motivo; non ci avevo mai messo le mani. Mai avevo restaurato o più semplicemente manutenzionato, uno di essi. Ho quindi trovato questo Lui durante l'estate 2019 in condizioni sufficientemente buone per non rivernicialo. Perchè i Lui a me piacciono esclusivamente conservati.
Lo smontaggio è iniziato durante l'inverno e nel frattempo ho trovato tutti i pezzi necessari a realizzarlo come piace a me. Ho potuto apprezzare che in realtà il Lui sia un mezzo geniale, a parte l'aspetto di almeno 20 anni più avanti rispetto ai propri tempi, sia meccanicamente che ciclisticamente è di una semplicità unica con soluzioni tecniche votate al risparmio ma certamente innovative. Pensate semplicemente alla totale intercambiabilià dei componenti del motore con i pezzi dei Lui 75 e delle sorelle J50, 100, 125. Alberi motore, cambi, frizioni, volani e statore, marmitte, tutto intercambiabile. Il mio pensiero quindi è stato quello di realizzare un mezzo che fosse la naturale evoluzione del Lui. Il concetto era 'cosa sarebbe successo se il Lui avesse avuto un successo mondale'?
Ne ho terminato il restauro solamente all'inizio dell'inverno 2020, per cui ho potuto solamente provarlo in qualche giretto collinare, il giudizio finale è rimandato al 2021, ma per quello che ho potuto provare, è divertimento totale!
I've had a few Lui's in my life, both 50cc and 75cc, even an English 75 with a racing history. Despite this I had never fall in love with them, so I always ended up selling them. In the end I understood the reason was because I never had my hands on them. Never had one restored or even maintained. So I found this one during the summer of 2019 in condition good enough not to repaint it. That's because I only like conserved Lui's.
I started stripping it down over the winter and in the meanwhile I have found all the parts for the idea I had in my mind. Doiing so I could appreciate that in reality the Lui is a very clever scooter, starting from the look which is at least ahead of its time, both mechanically and frame wise it is really simple with an eye to the cost of manufacturing but sporting very innovative solutions. Just think that engine parts are totally interchargeable with those of the Lui 75 and the sisters J50, 100, 125. Crankshafts, gear boxes, clutches, flywheels and stators, exhausts, all interchargeable. So my idea was to realize a Lui which was the natural evolution. The concept has been ' what it could have been like, if the Lui had had a Worldwise success'?
I have finished my restoration only at the beginning of the winter 2020 so I could only test it for a few hills ride outs, the final judgement will be delayed to 2021, but as far as I could test, it's an all round fun!
