About me

My history with Lambrettas starts one Autumn evening in 1980. One of those evenings when a missed appointment with a young lady makes your history. That's how it goes when you're young. She didn't arrive, I didn't know why so after waiting a bit I reached my mates at the local cinema where they were projecting Quadrophenia. Needless to say, once out of the cinema my life wouldn't have been the same. My first Lambretta arrived in 1982, an LI 125 S3 I still own, swopped with the local mechanic for my trusty Piaggio moped that had served me for the last two years. In 1985 the Lambretta got a Paganelli conversion. He was a local mechanic who used to machine 200 barrels to go into smaller capacity casings and it was largely used locally. The real earthquake has been 1986 when they introduced a law which obliged everybody to use a helmet to ride a motorcycle. Lots and lots of romantic who couldn't stand riding without wind in their hair ceased to ride their motorcycles and scooters, so a huge amount of Lambrettas and Vespas became available for cheap. That's when I went to visit that funny old man who I'd seen riding around town on his 200 Special, the real deal for the Italian young Mods, so after handing a few quid I brought it to my garage where it still is. Room was already tight, but one after the other lots of Lambrettas have been in my garage; some remained, some went to a new house. At the end of the 80s the Mod spirit had left space to Lambretta collection madness. In 1984 I had met the late Frans Hollander, for long time president of the Lambretta Club Nederland. Already retired he used to spend all the summer in Italy so I have to rely on him for introducing me to real Lambretta World. Apart from this he became a great friend, sadly missed in 2010 when he passed away. I will remember forever going down to Rimini's campsite when we used to chat all day in front of his roulotte talking Lambrettas, making projects and restoration jobs in front of a good fresh beer.

In 1989 I lived the new Lambretta era, when the first Lambretta jamboree after a long break had been organized by the reformed European Lambretta clubs (the LCGB was the only one that survived through the 70s and 80s). It's been for this reason that I have known Cesare Battaglini, a person who needs no introduction, with whom I have made fantastic journeys and unforgettable adventures.

My need for knowledge has made me get in touch with a lot of people Worldwide. It's been trough one of these contacts that my interest for old scooter racing started. I then got in touch with Eddie Yates, historical member of the Manchester Lyons scooter club, one of the British clubs more involved with the racing side of scooters. From there our friendship begun, we attended the Isle of Man event a couple of times together and regularly met sometimes in Italy, sometimes in England. So I started to collect videos, pictures, memorabilia, a lot of stuff I am sharing on this website since the beginning of the internet, in 2000. I think I can say that this website has contributed a lot to remind the historical brands of the golden era of scootering and the inventors of mythical styles.

Thank you for your support through the years and enjoy it!
