1971 Lambretta DL 225 electronic racer

Another one of my historical Lambrettas. This one had been discovered by the former Scooter Scene editor Steve Berry in one of his trips to Italy, while we were walking in the centre of Imola during the infamous parts fair. He stopped in front of the window of an old mechanic where he saw this sorry Lambretta laying about in a corner. He asked me to come back the following week to buy it for him. I did, but he never came back to collect. I was quite upset, at the time sourcing Lambrettas was cheap and easy, until a few years later having a Lambretta DL200 in the garage, an electronic one, became something interesting.

For the first restoration, in the mid 90 when I got the early scooter racing bug I did a Supertune replica, like the one I had spotted in an old Manchester Lyons video. As per the engine I did a period conversion, using a Honda 205 piston, PHBH carb, 19 front sprocket and an original Clubman exhaust. Then by the winter of 2008 I realized that there were too many Supertune replicas around so I decided to give it a new once over, still with a 70s racer style but now of my own style. Now it features a 70mm piston and period 70s tuning, SH 2/24 carb, 19 teeth sprocket and still the same fantastic exhaust.
